The demonstrator has been live now for 2 months. During that time we have received some excellent feedback and have made updates accordingly. Please keep the comments coming.
In particular the scalar tray maps on the core details page have caught the attention of many first time users. Capturing large amounts of information on a small amount of screen space is recognised as a valuable feature. As a result of the feedback we received regarding the scalar maps we have put considerable effort into improving this part of the demonstrator. Map creation time is now significantly reduced due to data access efficiency updates, text and image scaling has been greatly improved, "on click" attribute tags have been synchronised so that one click will reveal all currently displayed scalars values at the click point and some exporting functions have been added to facilitate the inclusion of the scalar maps in external documents.
The 'getting started' page has also been updated so if you're unsure of how to use the demonstrator start there.
New searching features have been added to the 'Drill-hole' search.
Also, many bugs have been fixed and small formatting adjustments made. Scalar searching should now work properly.
With regard to browser compatibility, Internet Explorer 6 should now display the web page correctly. Safari for windows will work for most of the web page. However, it still does not support the mapping package we use and applies some image filtering to images that should not be filtered, making them blurry.
Your feedback has been very valuable and we appreciate your effort. If your comments have not been addressed yet they will be in the near future.
As you can see the demonstrator is now live. Its purpose is to give NVCL partners, researchers and HyLogging™ data consumers a chance to see what a virtual core library could look like and provide feedback. So, please have a look around, try some things out and tell us what you think by leaving your comments here.
Please consider in your feedback giving a title, subject or category, such as NVCL web interface, Site navigation, Core imagery, Representing mineral content, Download experiences, etc., etc., as this will help organise thoughts and developments, and provoke others to think through the issues towards making the site even better. Your assistance is really appreciated. Please remember this site is only designed for broadband access!
Also, if you would like to provide some of your own data for testing please send me an email (peter.warren@csiro.au).
